Challenges in Pre-Analytical Error Detection: Impact of Hemolysis and Potential Solutions

This event took place on July 30 | 1:45-2:45 PM CT

Exhibit Hall, Theater 1

What might you be missing in your point-of-care blood gas results?  This workshop focused on the challenges in pre-analytical error detection, including hemolysis, its prevalence, and impact on potassium and clinical outcomes. Current strategies and a new technology to detect hemolysis to mitigate risk at the point of care were also be discussed.

Workshop Objectives

Describe impact of hemolysis on whole blood potassium results
Identify challenges in current practices to assess in vitro hemolysis
Evaluate a new technology to detect hemolysis at the point of care
